Are you excited for Marvel Super Heroes? With all new mechanics, synergies and reprints, this set brings forth excitement that cannot be contained even in the Multiverse! Join us on 19, 20 and 21 June for some Marvel Super Heroes Pre-release!
Marvel Super Heroes (MSH) is another full Universes Beyond set, containing at least 276 cards for its main set. A full set comes with its own interesting archetypes and MSH contains 10 different archetypes just for drafting!
Outside of draft synergies, this set also promises exciting new cards for every format, from constructed formats like Standard and Modern to more casual ones, like Commander.
On the Standard front, this set is packed with interesting cards that will not leave you wanting. Universes Beyond sets have consistently given us absolute bangers for land, such as Starting Town from Final Fantasy and Multiversal Passage from Spider-Man, but MSH promises to throw it out of park by introducing a new type of untapped dual land. This land is reminiscent of the Verge land that will be rotating out soon with Duskmorn, and will further strengthen the land base in Standard.
Outside of the new cycle of Allied dual lands, this set also introduces new synergies for Artifacts. Equipment like Iron Man Armor, Mjölnir, Hammer of Thor and Captain America’s Shield will prove to be a welcomed addition to any equipment decks such as those with Zack Fair and Cloud, Midgar Mercenary.
Another interesting Equipment to note from MSH is Hawkeye’s Bow which you can combo off with Forensic Researcher and North Pole Patrol to do unlimited tap and untapped until you burn off your opponents. This combo becomes even better in Commander with the addition of eternal cards like Kelpie Guide or Vizier of Tumbling Sands or Ioreth of the Healing House.
Outside of equipment, artifacts such as Ultron, Artificial Malevolence can help you make multiple copies of the same artifacts while Ironheart, Clever Champion and Shuri, Wakandan Inventor can make your artifacts cheaper. These cards will be powerful in decks where you build plenty of artifacts such as with Jeskai artifacts that uses Simulacrum Synthesizer or a deck with Weapons Manufacturing.
These new artifact synergies also come with their own land bases, with cards like Castle Doom allowing you to tap it for mana of any colour for artifact spells, or Reactor Core, a potentially free mana rock that you can tap for 3 colourless mana. But these two are incomparable to the shiniest mana rock the set has to offer, which is The Mind Stone, a two CMC mana rock that can potentially let you blink something at your end step every turn! With The Mind Stone, we are getting closer to completing the Infinity Stones!
Another interesting new addition in MSH is the return of Modal double-faced cards or MDFCs for short. This set introduces 5 different MDFC creatures which are small creatures on the cheap on the front side but expensive big creatures with huge effects on the back side. Not only is this the grand return of an old mechanic but also a flavour win as it depicts the Superheroes in both their Human mode and Super mode!
With the introduction of MDFCs, the most important thing is to think of ways to cast the backside for either cheaply or free! We already have a few cards that can do this in the current Standard meta, namely Random Encounter and Improvisation Capstone, but MSH is introducing more ways for us to do so with cards like Cosmic Cube, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Speaking of “cheating”, we are also getting some interesting cards for denying your opponents! You can now take an extra turn with Kang the Conqueror and deny opponents their turn. But the true denial is when you steal your opponents creatures only to attack, defend and kill them off in the new Saga, The Super Hero Civil War. For your last coup de grâce, you can also use Construct a Cosmic Cube to potentially control your opponent during their next turn!
Lastly, before we finish off this sneak peek at MSH, let’s take a look at the Marvel Universe (MAR) cards which include art from the source material. These cards could possibly come at the last slot of your booster packs and include reprints of cards from Magic history, including cards like Teferi’s Protection as T'Challa's Protection and Force of Vigor. But the true reprint win is the ones from the Marvel Secret Lair a few years ago. These are unique cards that were only ever printed for Secret Lair, making them almost impossible to get. Now that they are reprinted as part of MAR, it means that we will now have a chance of getting exclusive Secret Lair cards!
And that’s a wrap for our preview of Marvel Super Heroes! Join us this coming Friday for some fun games of Sealed with out MSH pre-release as we crack open these interesting new cards!
